If you’re looking for a more all-natural makeup remover, then give coconut oil a try. With its numerous benefits, coconut oil will dissolve the most stubborn waterproof makeup.
When I was on vacation in Italy last year, I ran out of my favorite makeup remover. All I had in my travel makeup bag was a jar (yes, a jar!) of coconut oil that I use frequently as a body lotion. With all the local shops closed in the area, I decided to try coconut oil as a makeup remover.
So now, more than a year later, I still find myself gravitating to coconut oil to remove my makeup. Plus, let’s face it — coconut oil smells great.
I also like to use coconut oil as a makeup remover, in part because it feels nourishing while I cleanse my skin as opposed to a strip-your-skin feeling that some cleansers result in.
For me, ensuring that a makeup remover gently removes all the makeup and impurities is at the top of my priority list. I have combination skin and my skin is noticeably more hydrated and clear every time I use it.
So, before sharing the following makeup removing tips, here is what coconut oil will do as a makeup remover:
- Hydrate the face and eye area.
- Gentle to use on the face (no pulling, rubbing, or strip your skin feeling).
- Easily remove the most stubborn of makeup.

How To Remove Makeup Using Coconut oil:
Applying coconut oil is a breeze, since you would apply just quarter-size amount to cleanse your entire face —or more, if you’re also removing eye makeup.
Next, the key difference here is that after you massage the oil onto your face, gently remove the coconut oil with a warm wash cloth or a dry cotton ball. I prefer to use a dry cotton ball to remove the coconut oil, as I find it to be more gentle than the wash cloth.
To make sure you’ve removed the excess coconut oil, repeat the process until the wash cloth or dry cotton ball is clear. You can find coconut oil here.
How to Remove Eye Makeup with Coconut oil:
First, hold a soaked cotton ball over closed eyes for a couple seconds. Next, gently swipe to remove eye makeup. Repeat until the cotton ball is clear.
